Radisson Hotel Group to open 10 new hotels in Africa

Radisson Hotel Group has announced plans to open 10 new hotels within the African market – at the on-going Africa Hotel Investment Forum in Nairobi.

The group has 90 hotels with 18,000+ rooms in operation and under development – across 31 countries and plans to reach 130 hotels and over 23,000 rooms in Africa, by 2022.

Andrew McLachlan, Senior Vice President, Development, Sub-Saharan Africa, Radisson Hotel Group – says they will be adding about 1,300 rooms to its portfolio in Africa this year (2018).

In addition to the Radisson Hotel & Apartments Abidjan Plateau and Park Inn by Radisson Lusaka, the hotel group announced earlier this year that – the remaining eight new hotel deals include three hotels in Nigeria, one in Ivory Coast, Tunis, Niger, Morocco and Guinea.

“We plan to continue this accelerated growth through further expansion in key markets across this flourishing continent,” McLachlan told the forum.

Radisson Hotel Group is one of the world’s largest hotel groups with eight distinctive hotel brands. It currently has more than 1,400 hotels in operation and under development around the world.

Radisson Hotel Group portfolio includes Radisson Collection, Radisson Blu, Radisson RED Park Plaza, Park Inn by Radisson, Country Inn & Suites by Radisson and Prizeotel.

“The growth strategy in Africa is a key initiative in Destination 2022, the Group’s five-year strategic operating plan, with the goal of becoming one of the top three hotel companies in the world,” he noted.

The Africa Hotel Investment Forum, which opened on Tuesday in Nairobi, has attracted over 500 participants in the country. The forum is expected to increase hotel and infrastructure investments opportunities in the region.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary, Najib Balala, says Kenya will use this forum as a launch pad for innovative tourism investment opportunities, as the Ministry aims to boost the country’s thriving tourism sector.
